Wednesday 24th January (Cuenca – Máncora) – So we had to meet in the hotel lobby at 6:15am to catch our taxi to the local bus station. At 7am, we caught our bus to the border. Luckily, customs didn’t take too long – only about 30/40 minutes. Sometimes, you can be at border crossings for hours! We then caught a private bus to the hotel. We arrived at the hotel (Las Oras) around 3:30pm. A beautiful, boutique-style hotel right on the beach (hence why I named this post ‘relaxing in Máncora’!). My room was the beachfront view room – literally 10 metres away from the ocean!
We went out to explore the town. Lovely craft markets and cute food carts selling churros and coffee. For dinner, we strolled into the town and found a local restaurant that did a set menu for 10/s ($3!). We had a choice of roughly 5 different starters and 5 different mains with a cool drink included. I went for ceviche and chicken schnitzel. Later on, we stopped to buy rum and Coca Cola at the local mini mart and had a party on the beach!
Thursday 25th January – we went for a lovely breakfast at a local café – a set breakfast consisting of bread, coffee, fruit and yogurt. We then spent most of the day relaxing on the beach! For dinner, we went back to the same restaurant as the night before, I went for tequeños (Peruvian cheese bites) and for mains I had a fried egg, fried plantain and rice…delicious!
